Fabric Suggestions
This skirt can be made in almost anything lightweight and woven. It’s a bias cut style so it should have a bit of drape in the fabric to enable it to stretch and relax back into place. Why not have a bit of fun and mix up the fabrics in this skirt? You can cut up your remnants or up cycle some old garments or even patchwork the panels!
Adaptations
Try lap laying the seam allowances over each other by 2cm, sewing together in the middle with two rows of straight stitching and leaving the edges raw. Once washed you can trim off any excess frayed threads and it shouldn’t fray anymore. If frayed edges really aren’t your thing and you’d prefer a neater finish, just turn the raw edges to the inside and finish like you would a normal seam with the right sides together and a 1cm seam allowance. You’ll get two completely different looks from the same pattern.
Skill Level
The skirt is aimed at an intermediate sewer. There’s nothing too tricky here though if you’ve made a garment or two before and your confidence is building. No zips, no buttons, no gathering or interfacing. The most difficult part of this skirt by far is the cutting out of the pattern. It takes up quite a bit of fabric and placing the panels correctly as per the instructions. The skirt panels are straight forward to make but remember to label them so you don’t lose track of which one is which. If you like a puzzle and a bit of patchwork you’ll love this pattern!
Trims
2.5cm elastic – measured to the size of your waist plus a few centimetres.
